2009-2010 Council of Young Physicians Call for Nominations

If you are active in your local chapter, get involved nationally by joining the ACP Council of Young Physicians (CYP). The CYP is responsible for planning programs for the annual meeting for young physicians and providing a young physician perspective on current issues impacting the field of internal medicine.

To be eligible you must currently be:

  • A Member or FACP of the College who is within 16 years of medical school graduation as of May 1, 2009 and who is no longer in training.

To be an effective council member you must commit to:

  • Serve on the CYP for a term of three years beginning at the College’s Annual Business Meeting (April 25, 2009)
  • Travel to Philadelphia twice a year for council meetings. Meeting dates for 2009 – 2010 are August 3, 2009 and February 8, 2010.
  • Serve as the Young Physician representative on one of the Colleges permanent committees during his or her term. Serving on a committee will require at least one additional trip to Philadelphia.

2009 – 2010 Open Seats: If you are interested in running for one of the two at-large positions available or live in one of the states listed below please refer to the submission instructions below.

Southern Region (AL, AR, FL, GA, KY, LA, MS, NC, OK, PR, SC, TN, TX)

How to Apply:

Interested candidates must be Members or Fellows of the College who are within sixteen years of graduating from medical school as of May 1, 2009 and must have his or her nomination signed off on by their ACP Governor (see note below). In order to be considered for a seat on the CYP, interested candidates must provide curriculum vitae, a letter of recommendation, and a letter of interest that answers the question:

“What role can the Council of Young Physicians play in creating an environment within the College in which young ACP members are more likely to actively participate at both the national and chapter level?"

Once your nomination materials have been vetted by your ACP Governor, they must be submitted to Amy Allen Collins, Administrator, Council Relations and Governance, at aallen@acponline.org or via fax to 215-351-2759 by January 5, 2009. The elections will be held in early February and candidates will be notified of the results later that month. Each candidate will be reviewed with neutrality to gender, race, and ethnic background.
