Membership
Membership in ACP is a benchmark in the career of an internal medicine specialist or subspecialist. It is an expression of solemn dedication to the highest standards of medical practice, education, and research and provides peer recognition of continued commitment to professional excellence.
Physicians who have been certified in internal medicine, a combined internal medicine specialty, or neurology are eligible for ACP Membership. Physicians who have not been certified, but who have successfully completed training in an acceptable program, are also eligible for ACP Membership. However, all candidates for Membership who reside in Canada and Japan must be certified in internal medicine.
For more information on Membership requirements, please reference the Membership Information Booklet
.
Questions about eligibility requirements should be directed to the Credentialing Department at 800-523-1546, ext. 2704, or can be
e-mailed to mbrservices@acponline.org.
Special note for ACP Associate members
who wish to advance to Membership
Associates whose dues are paid are advanced automatically to Membership in the College upon certification in internal medicine, a combined internal medicine specialty, or neurology, or submission of a copy of their residency completion certificate from an approved program. Associates may choose not to advance to Membership, or may request an extension of Associate membership if they are in or accepted into a fellowship training program, in lieu of automatic election to Membership.
